Melissa is a fifth year associate at Bogaards Davis. During her years at the firm, she has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide variety of personal injury and wrongful death cases, breach of contract actions and property disputes including partition of residential property. Melissa has made frequent appearances in all Bay Area courts, and has had extensive law and motion, arbitration and mediation experience. She is known for taking detailed and thorough depositions, which often have led to early settlements. She also takes great care of her clients, vigorously representing them, keeping in close touch and communicating strategy, timelines, and progress.

Melissa has a scientific background, having studied Biological Sciences and Psychology in undergraduate school. She researched, wrote and defended her thesis in developmental neurobiology. This technical background provides her with insights into complex medical conditions of plaintiffs in personal injury actions, especially brain injuries, which she uses to good advantage working with medical experts.

During law school in Boston, Melissa clerked for Judge Patti B. Saris of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, researching a variety of legal issues and helping draft trial court opinions. She also clerked at a complex civil litigation firm, and interned with the in-house legal department of a pharmaceuticals company. Heeding the call to go west, she took the California Bar Exam and moved to San Francisco to begin her law practice. With her scientific background, highly organized approach and intense client focus, she is a great asset to Bogaards Davis. She, in turn, likes the firm because she gets to know and work closely with clients, relationships that don’t often happen in larger firms where attorneys are assigned to cases, not clients. She particularly enjoys the firm’s opportunities to hone her litigation skills, enjoying the fast pace and adversarial nature of trial work.

In her free time, Melissa loves to hang out with her husband, Mike, and their dog, Ellsbury. They often can be found enjoying San Francisco’s many beautiful parks and beaches, or exploring the nearby wine country.
